Tripura Upajati Ganamukti Parishad on Saturday submitted a letter to the chief minister alleging huge crisis of food and work in the remote tribal areas of the state. Leaders of the organization led by its president Jitendra Choudhury who is also an MP met chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb at his house on Saturday in this regard.

The Parishad also pointed out that due to discontinuation of MGNREGA that has created huge crisis of food and work, people of remote areas particularly in Dhalai district are compelled to cross over to Bangladesh to overcome the crisis.

The MP also raised his concern over the fact that a section of tribal people crossing over to Bangladesh may fall trapped in the hands of anti-India forces especially the small section of NLFT and ATTF which are still active in the other side of the border.

However, the government denied such allegations.

Earlier, Deputy CM and Revenue Minister Jishnu Dev Barman rubbishing the allegations of the Opposition showed statistics claiming that the number of mandays created during this time is more than the previous years. On the contrary he alleged that due to the previous government’s large scale corruption and inability to produce utility certificate or proper audit of works done under MGNREGA the centre had stopped all payments.

Tripura CM has said that there is no such incident of death due to hunger in the state. He admitted that the tribal people are crossing to Bangladesh through few patches where border fence has not been raised yet. But they cross over to Bangladesh to collect various forest products, he added.
