The suspended member of Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), Basanta Kumar Doley, who was arrested by City police, was on Friday sent to 12-day police custody.

Doley was arrested here on Thursday in a case related to alleged irregularities in selection of agriculture development officers (ADO). He was produced before the special court, Assam, here which sent him to 12-day police custody.

A case was registered under Sections 120(B) (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) of the IPC and Sections 13(1) (A) (D) (iii) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

Doley, a former associate professor of English at Silapathar College in Dhemaji district was also arrested in November 2016 by Dibrugarh police for alleged anomalies in selection of Assam Civil Service, Assam Police Service and allied services officers by the APSC. He had secured bail in the case from Gauhati High Court in August last year.

Police sources said over 1,000 optical mark recognition sheets of candidates, who had appeared in an examination for jobs in the state’s agriculture department, have been sent for forensic analysis along with attendance list and marksheets.

Sources said they have gathered evidence of tampering of answer scripts by at least 27 candidates. These candidates are likely to be arrested shortly, sources added.
