People of the Bajali subdivision and its surrounding areas have expressed happiness over the announcement of the new Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Pijush Hazarika decision to upgrade the Swahid Madan Routa Hospital into a 100-bed hospital at Pathsala, the headquarter town of Bajali subdivision of Barpeta district.

It was a long-felt need of people of the locality.

Pijush Hazarika during his visit to Pathsala on May 12 inspected the hospital and announced a grant of Rs 16 crore for construction of a new building with 100-bed facility.

The sudden announcement is a boon to the people. During his visit to the hospital, he also directed the authority concerned to keep the hospital and surrounding areas neat and clean.

The minister also visited Pathsala town committee’s office and discussed various problems of the town. Himangshu Roy, chairman of the present town committee along with the Pabindra Deka, MLA, Patacharkuchi LAC and Prava Das, vice chairman of the town committee accorded a warm felicitation to the minister.

The programme was anchored by writer Pulu Sarma and the minister was felicitated with a phoolam gamusa, umbrella, seleng sador, sarai etc.

Giridhar Choudhury, senior advocate and president of the Bajar committee, Krishan Roy, producer of Abahan Theatre and a number of leading citizens were present on the occasion.

The minister also discussed the problems of the town committee and assured a helping hand to solve it.

Earlier, the minister was accorded a warm felicitation in the office of the Bajali Zila BJP by Phani Pathak, president of the Samiti. Among others, Pranjal Deka and president of the Mahila Morcha Dhirumani Roy (Babi), along with other party leaders and workers, were present in the programme.

It may be mentioned that the BJP during the election campaign had assured to declare the Bajali subdivision as a new district if it came to power. In fact, the people are waiting for the formal declaration. Therefore, the announcement made by the minister has made the people happy.
