During a joint operation, a cadre of the anti-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB-S), a close aide of dreaded NDFB-S leader Batha, was apprehended by Shantipur Police and the Army in Chirang on Monday.
The apprehended NDFB-S cadre has been identified as Saikhong.
As per information, the operation was carried out by a joint team of police from Shantipur Police Station along with personnel from the Chirang-based Army.
Sources claimed, “Saikhong has been an old cadre of the 40 batch NDFB(S). He was arrested earlier also and was out on bail and had started working with NDFB-S again.”
It has been claimed that Saikhong had been a close aide of the Agricultural Secretary of the NDFB-S, Binod Muchahary alias Batha and was acting as their administrative link and assisting in extortion collection of the NDFB (S).
From the possession of Saikhong, one revolver, four rounds of ammunition and two fire cases were recovered, sources added.
It may be mentioned that one over-ground worker of the NDFB-S was apprehended during a joint operation by police and 12 Sikh Light Infantry regiment on May 7 night.
The over-ground NDFB-S worker was apprehended from Serfanguri village in Dotma Tehsil of Kokrajhar district in Assam.
The security personnel seized one country-made pistol and two mobile handsets with SIM cards were recovered from his possession.
The arrested over-ground NDFB-S worker was identified as Ajit Goyary, aged around 26 years and son of one Nirmal Goyary of North Guwabari at Patgaon under Serfanguri Police Station in Dotma Tehsil.
The nabbed over-ground NDFB-S worker, Ajit Goyary was allegedly involved in recruitment and extortion at Serfanguri and Patgaon areas of the district.
