The railway sector of Kokrajhar in Assam seems to have turned into jaws of death.
With the father-son duo committing suicide on the tracks owing to financial distress still fresh in the minds, a minor girl was mowed down by a speeding train on Wednesday morning.
The minor girl was defecating on the tracks when the accident took place. The deceased belonging to a very poor family does not have a toilet at home.
The incident took place at a time when the Narendra Modi Government is laying optimum stress on providing toilets to each and every household across the nook and corners of the country with an aim to make the nation open defecation free.
According to the police official at Kokrajhar railway station, K Basumatary, the seven-year-old girl hailing from Magistrate Colony of Ward No 9 in Kokrajhar was defecating on the nearby tracks at around 7:30 am on Wednesday morning when a goods train mowed her down.
The minor girl died on the spot. The victim has been identified as Saraswati Rai, daughter of one Ganesh Rai hailing from Magistrate Colony of Ward No 9 in Kokrajhar.
The victim’s father, Ganesh Rai alleged that when the government is providing toilets to each and every household, the much publicized scheme is yet to reach them residing in the heart of Kokrajhar town.
He also alleged that he has been requesting the concerned authorities for constructing a toilet at his residence many a times but to no avail.
The desolate father of the victim also lamented that had his repeated peals been heard earlier, this tragic incident would not have happened.
