Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, who have served A-list Bollywood actors like Alia Bhatt, is of the opinion that there are many benefits of taking a short afternoon nap after lunch

According to Diwekar, we should take nap right after lunch by lying down in the foetal position on our left side popularly known as Vamakukshi

The ideal time to rest after lunch is between 1-3 PM and the nap should last for around 10 to 30 minutes but people who are very sick, aged or very young should lay down in the afternoon for at least 90 minutes

“ If at home, lie down on the bed. If at work, just put your head down on the desk and rest,” shared Rujuta in a post on Instagram

“ Alternatively, you can doze off on an easy chair and if you cannot do that either, just go to a window and look far away, stare in space and allow your mind to unwind,” she added

However, Rujuta cautioned that we should take never naps between 4-7 pm and have stimulants like tea, coffee, cigarettes, chocolate post lunch

She also advised against sleeping beyond 30 minutes at one time or do so with the TV on.

Moreover, it is also not a good idea to take refuge in our cellphones right after waking up from an afternoon nap

The benefits of a short afternoon nap are that it improves heart health, hormonal balance, digestion, recovery from injury or illnesses, helps us in sleeping better at night and also aids in weight loss
