Asim Rajkhowa. Northeast Now

Noted social worker, an active leader of the Assam Movement and former President of HFC (Now BVFCL) Fertilizer Shramik Union, Asim Rajkhowa of Namrup breathed his last at his house in Namrup on Sunday.

He was 69 at the time of his demise.

Asim Rajkhowa was born at Kamarbondha in Golaghat.

He joined the Hindustan Fertilizer Corporation Limited (HFC) in 1969.

Rajkhowa, who was the HFC (Now BVFCL) Fertilizer Shramik Union President, retired in 2007.

It may be mentioned that during the separation of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL) from the Hindustan Fertilizer Corporation Limited (HFC), Rajkhowa actively led the employees of the Hindustan Fertilizer Corporation Limited and was able to influence the top level officials of the fertilizer corporation.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has expressed his condolence at the demise of this noted leader of Assam Movement.

The Namrup unit of the Asom Sahitya Sabha, the Namrup unit of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Senior Citizens of Namrup, Samalaya Kobi Chakra of Namrup, Namrup College Governing Body, Executive Member of the State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ranjit Baruah, Namrup Press and Society, Swargam Kala Niketan, Namrup Sarnagari Bornamghar Governing Body and many other organisations have condoled the demise of Rajkhowa and prayed for peace of the departed soul.

Rajkhowa is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
