Two hardcore thieves were caught red handed by the public of Hadanpara in ward no 8 of Kokrajhar.

The thieves were caught when they were stealing gold, ornaments, money etc from the house of one Pulmuni Basumatary, a resident of Hadanpara.

However, the other members of the gang of thieves managed to flee. The two thieves nabbed by the public were later handed over to the police after proper thrashing.

The arrested duo has been identified as Nurjamal Ali, aged around 19 years and Jahirul Ali, aged around 18 years.
Both of them hail from Dhubri district.

B Basumatary, officer in-charge of Kokrajhar sadar police station said that considerable amount of gold ornaments, two bikes, and mobile phones apart from cash were recovered from the possession of the thieves.

He said that the thieves first stole the gold ornaments from the house of one Santeswar Basumatary.

Then they entered the house of one Amio Brahma and thirdly, they attempted to steal from the house of Pulmuni Basumatary.

All the three houses were in the same locality and the residents of all the three houses had gone to Guwahati for Bihu vacation and thieves took advantage of the absence of the families.

He also said that the police have launched a massive hunt to nab the other members of the gang.

Meanwhile investigation is on into the whole matter.
