Droupadi Murmu was sworn in as the 15th President of India on July 25, 2022

From being born in a poor house in a remote tribal area to reaching the highest constitutional position in India, Murmu has come a long way in her career

After her assumption of office as President of India, Murmu gave an account of her life in an encouraging speech to the nation

Murmu, who is first President to be born after India gained independence, said that getting even the most basic elementary education was like a dream for her

However, her strong determination made her ensure that she became the first woman from her village to go to college inspite of all obstacles

She feels that her attainment to the post of President of India is the result of the power of democracy and also the achievement of every poor person in the country

According to Murmu, her election is a proof of the fact that the poor in India can have dreams and fulfil them too.

She said that she felt privileged to take the responsibility of President at a historic time when India is reaching its 75th year of Independence

Murmu is also proud of the fact that she got an opportunity to lead a ‘progressive India’ where youths are always ready to walk on new paths and shun the beaten tracks
