A severe cyclone lashed Silchar in Barak valley of Assam on Friday evening causing extensive damage.
The heavy storm that lasted for over half an hour left behind a trail of destruction in this Barak valley town.
Normal life of the residents was thrown out of gear by the untimely storm with a fortnight still away for the month of ‘Baishakh’ in the Bengali calendar to come.
The storm uprooted several power supply poles resulting snapping of power supply across the town and adjoining areas.
Though the electricity department officials are working on the damages, it is yet uncertain as to when power supply will be restored in the town and its adjoining areas.
This has been a normal phenomenon in time of the year, but yesterday’s storm took the Silchar residents off guard.
Meanwhile, the district administration has issued advisories to the general public regarding various safety and precautionary measures to be taken during such natural calamities.
