Aizawl: Mizoram Police seized narcotics worth Rs 77.15 crore and arrested 29 people, including six Myanmar nationals, in 29 cases registered across the state in September, highlighting the persistent challenge of drug trafficking in the region.

Champhai district recorded one of the largest seizures, with police recovering 25.646 kg of methamphetamine. Two separate cases in Saitual district resulted in the seizure of 18.194 kg and 12.746 kg of the same drug, the statement said.
In another case, police seized 8.946 kg of methamphetamine, 3.087 kg of morphine and 50 grams of heroin.
Other significant recoveries included 3.7 kg of opium in Champhai district, 1.618 kg of heroin in Kolasib and 4.22 kg of ganja in Lawngtlai.
The accused arrested in connection with the cases included Indian and foreign nationals, with several identified as residents of Manipur and Myanmar.
Mizoram Police said the seizures reflected ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and the circulation of narcotics in the state. However, the department stressed the need for continued public cooperation to strengthen enforcement efforts.
The police appealed to residents to share information about suspected drug trafficking and the movement of narcotics with the government, village councils, the Young Mizo Association (YMA) and non-governmental organisations.
The department reiterated that cooperation between law enforcement agencies and local communities remains important in tackling the drug menace.
