The prestigious Nowgaon College in Assam has been declared as a state university.
This announcement was made by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday.
The Assam chief minister was in Nagaon to attend a function where he declared the Nowgaon College as a state university.
“Nowgong College has given many bright minds to the state and the country. Humbled to be among the students, faculty and alumni of the prestigious institution while declaring it as a state university,” said CM Sarma.
He added: “We are committed to fulfilling all infrastructural and academic needs of the institution in this regard.”

“I urge all stakeholders to come up with suggestions on subjects and courses to be imparted and ways to make it a top-notch university in the coming days,” the Assam CM further said.
Established in 1944, the Nowgaon College is one of the oldest co-educational colleges of Assam, situated in the city of Nagaon.
On 22nd December 2020, the college was granted autonomy by the University Grants Commission for a period of 10 years.
