The Home Department related to questions from MLA Akhil Gogoi about the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019 protests said that three persons were killed in police firing during the protests in Assam.
The department did not name the persons killed in police firing. However, the department mentioned another death due to bullet injuries but claimed that it was not known if the person was killed in police action.
In the reply, the home department stated that the person was killed under an area that falls under the Paltan Bazar Police Station but it was not known who shot him and the investigation related to this fourth death was underway.

The department further added that there were no records of which organizations the deceased belonged to.
“The deceased had taken part in the anti-CAA protest and were also involved in illegal activities”, the department wrote in the reply.
The department also stated that the police had also registered 406 cases against protestors.
Along with that 11 persons were booked under the UA(P)A, 1967 while six persons are under NIA investigation.
