A woman was killed after a train “mowed” down her at the Jogighopa Railway Station in Assam’s Bongaigaon district on Monday.

The incident was reported early in the morning while the woman was waiting for a train at the Jogighopa Railway Station.

The woman was identified as Eliza Bauwa of the same area. She accidentally fell on the tracks while a train was moving into the station and before the loco-pilot could hit the brakes, the train had moved over her.

She was “cut” into pieces and although the locals tried to take her to a medical facility, she had already passed away.

It needs to be mentioned that most railway stations in the state do not have adequate security measures for the prevention of such incidents.

Most of the time, the safety line precaution on the platforms are not implemented and there are no monitoring of people being prone to hazardous situations.

It is often seen that people in railway stations do not follow any safety measures and at times they would even try to get on a moving train while at times, they would try to get off from a speeding train at certain stops.

These had led to many accidents and there have been no concrete steps from the railway authorities.
