The construction of the railway line between Bairabi and Sairang in Mizoram would be expedited, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Parliament on Wednesday.
In reply to a question from Mizoram MP C. Lalrosanga, Vaishnaw said the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) executing the 51.38 km long Bhairabi-Sairang new railway line project at an anticipated cost of Rs. 6,527 crore.
“Though it is uncertain that how long it will take, the construction of the rail line will be expedited,” he said.
Of the Rs 6,527 crore, Rs 4,343 crore has been spent and Rs 1,036 crore is allocated for fiscal 2021-2022, the Union Minister said.
According to Vaishnaw, there will be 55 major, 87 minor bridges and 32 tunnels measuring about 12.65 km in the entire project.
The construction of a 51-km broad gauge line between Sairang near Aizawl and Bairabi bordering Assam began in 2015.
The project is scheduled to be completed by March 2023, according to officials.
