The Tripura police has clarified that no permission has been granted either to BJP or TMC to hold rallies and roadshows in Agartala on Monday.
“No permission for roadshow/rally either for BJP or TMC in Agartala today,” informed sub-divisional police officer, Agartala (Sadar) – Ramesh Yadav.
However, both the parties have been granted to hold street corner meets as part of campaigning for the upcoming civic bodies elections.
“Permission for street corner meets granted to both. TMC hasn’t intimated to us the time when they’re going to organise the street corner meet,” the SDPO said.

He added: “The permissions for rallies are denied in view of the tension escalating in the city.”
Notably, a fresh round of political violence has erupted in Agartala following the arrest of TMC youth Congress president Sayani Ghosh by the Tripura police on Sunday on attempt to murder charges.
The police station where Sayani Ghosh has been kept under arrest came under attack twice on Sunday allegedly by “BJP-sheltered goons”.
Moreover, the residence of Tripura TMC convenor Subal Bhowmik also came under attack by suspected “BJP goons” late on Sunday evening.
