Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) CEM Rasik Mohan Chakma said the brick factory set up by the Council at Udalthana-I will generate about Rs 1 crore revenue per year.
The brick factory, set up at Udalthana-I by the industry department of Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) was inaugurated on Monday by Chief executive Member (CEM) Rasik Mohan Chakma.
Stating that the construction of the brick factory is a milestone achievement for the council, the CEM said the factory will provide employment opportunities to many people.
The inaugural function was attended by members of Chakma Autonomous District Council, council officials and village council leaders of Udalthana-I and Udalthana-II in Mizoram.
Two Executive Members Lakkhan Chakma and Onish Moy Chakma graced the event as guests of honour.
The brick kiln, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.70.16 lakh funded out of additional Grant-in-Aid Fund, 2019-2020, has a capacity to produce about 5 lakh of bricks in one go per month.
It has a 98 feet high chimney.

Kneading of soil and casting of bricks is being done by a machine bought at a cost of about Rs. 10 lakh which has a production rate of 18 bricks per minute.
The completion of the brick kiln has been delayed by about a year due to the covid pandemic.
Speaking on the occasion, Rasik Mohan Chakma hailed the construction of the brick factory as a milestone achievement for the council.

Citing the brick factory was the first venture of the CADC into a small-scale industry, he pointed out that government jobs alone can’t address the unemployment problem today.
“We have a plan to supply bricks to other parts of Mizoram in the coming days,” he said.
“The bricks locally available now are of sub-standard quality and the setting up of the brick kiln is to produce quality bricks at an affordable rate,” he said.
“Problem of bad road condition within CADC can be a thing of the past with sufficient production of bricks as we will seek to address it by brick soling the road surface,” he added.
Lakkhan Chakma, who has had held the industry department till recently and during whose stint most of the works of the project were completed while taking pride in the successful completion of the project appreciated the hard work put on by all in the Industry department.
However, he cautioned that more than setting up an asset what is more important is its management.
He reposed hope and confidence in his colleague Onish Moy Chakma, who succeeded him, being in-charge of the department now.
