The Sikkim government has decided to grant 1-year maternity leave and 1-month paternity leave for the teachers, chief minister Prem Singh Tamang Golay said on Sunday.
The decision of the Sikkim was announced by chief minister Golay on the occasion of Children’s Day.
On Sunday, Sikkim chief minister Golay attended the Children’s Day celebrations at Saramsa Garden, Ranipool, wherein state awards were presented to the teachers for their contributions and achievements.
“I was pleased to be a part of the Children’s Day celebrations held at Saramsa Garden, Ranipool, wherein State awards were presented to the Teachers for their contributions and achievements,” said chief minister Golay in a Facebook post on Sunday.

“As we live in a fast-paced world, our students need to be familiar with the latest trends and technology.”
To facilitate this, the Sikkim government has decided to commence with computer education from the 5th standard and will appoint computer literacy instructors accordingly, the Sikkim CM announced.
“Similarly, we have also decided to provide one-year maternity leave and one-month paternity leave for the teachers,” the chief minister announced.
The Sikkim CM also announced that vehicles will be provided to 4 principals, one each in the existing districts in the initial stage from the upcoming financial year.
During the event, the Sikkim CM also launched the online portal for Sikkim Teachers Eligibility Test(STET), National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN) Bharat, the Sikkim Chapter, Private School registration portal, and AAGAZ(Covid-19 school readiness projects).

State Awards 2021 were also handed over to the teachers during the event, accompanied by meritorious awards for outstanding students and teachers.
Teachers bestowed with the National award 2021 were also presented with mementos and cash prizes, the chief minister said.
