A total of 46 cadres of the Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) surrendered arms and joined the mainstream during a surrender ceremony at Khepre, 95 km from Haflong in Dima Hasao district.

DNLA C-in-C Mushrang also joined the mainstream on Saturday.

The surrender ceremony was attended by Additional Director General of Assam Police (Special Branch) Hiren Nath, IGP Dipak Kedi, North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa, DNLA chairman Edika Diphusa alias Kharmindao Dimasa and others.

Talking to media persons, DNLA chairman Edika Diphusa informed that more other cadres would come overground this month and they are hopeful that good news will come after the talks with the Assam government and the Centre.

ADGP Hiren Nath said, “Today a total of 46 cadres of the DNLA surrendered their arms. The DNLA was active in Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong and was involved in some untoward incidents.”

“The outfit announced an unconditional ceasefire for six months and on Sept 24 its ‘chairman’, Edika Diphusa alias Kharmindao Dimasa came to the fore to hold peace talks with the government,” he added.

Talking to reporters, NCHAC CEM Debolal Gorlosa said, “There was no development in the last 50 years. Now Dima Hasao is experiencing progress. We are massively working in the tourism sector.”

“Now you can see development across Dima Hasao whether it is roads or other sectors. If security camps are set up along the borders with Nagaland and Manipur, peace will be permanently established,” he added.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet said the return of the DNLA cadres including the C-in-C to the mainstream will give impetus to the peace process in the state.
