Taking a cue from the Union government over fuel prices, the Assam government cut petrol and diesel prices in the state by reducing the value-added tax (VAT) attached to the auto fuel prices.
Assam government has decided to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel by Rs 7 from last night.
“Heartening to learn Central Govt decision to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel. In consonance with the decision of Honble PM @narendramodi, I am pleased to announce that Assam Govt will also reduce VAT on petrol and diesel by Rs 7/- with immediate effect,” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a tweet on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, the Centre slashed excise duties on petrol by Rs 5 a litre and on diesel by Rs 10 a litre.
With the reduction of taxes, the rate in petrol in Guwahati declined to Rs 94.46 and diesel to Rs 81.7.
The Manipur and Tripura government has also decided to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel each by Rs 7.
Govt of Manipur will also reduce VAT on petrol and diesel each by Rs 7 with immediate effect, said Manipur CM N Biren Singh.
Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb tweeted, “Following Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji led central govt’s decision on reduction of excise duty on petrol & diesel. #Tripura govt has also decided to reduce petrol & diesel cost by ? 7 from tomorrow.”
“After central and state governments deduction in fuel prices, petrol and diesel will be cheaper by ?12 and ?17 respectively in #Tripura from tomorrow. A happier#Diwali for the 37 lakh people of #Tripura,” Deb further said.
