Bidyananda Barkakoty from Assam has been unanimously elected as the adviser of North Eastern Tea Association (NETA) for the term 2021-23.
Barkakoty was elected as the adviser of the tea association in Northeast during a general body meeting of the association held on Monday at NETA headquarters in Golaghat.
He has been elected for the fourth consecutive term as NETA adviser, informed NETA chairman Sunil Jallan.

A highly experienced man in tea, Barkakoty earlier served as the chairman of NETA for three consecutive terms from 2009-2015 and as vice-chairman for three consecutive terms from 2003-2009, Jallan informed.
He is a partner of Mahalaxmi Tea Estate and Nandapur Tea Estate in Golaghat district and is a producer of the finest quality green tea.
“Barkakoty is considered the face of the Assam tea industry and is a former vice-chairman of Tea Board India,” Jallan said.

NETA, established in 1981, is a tea producers’ association having composite tea estates, bought tea leaf factories and tea gardens under its membership fold.
It has a total of 163 members spread over Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, representing tea made of around 102 million kgs of Tea.
NETA is a constituent member of the Consultative Committee of Plantations Associations (CCPA), the umbrella body of tea producers of the country.
