Former MLA from Nongkrem constituency in Meghalaya – Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit and a “group of concerned citizens” in the state have come together to form a new political party.
The new political party in Meghalaya, named “Voice of the People Party (VPP)”, has been formed keeping in sight the 2023 Assembly elections in the state.
Announcement of the floating of the new political party in Meghalaya was announced by Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit on Tuesday.
However, the new party – the Voice of the People Party (VPP) – will be officially launched in November, after which it shall approach the Election Commission of India (ECI) for a party symbol.
Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit was the former president of the Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP), a state party in Meghalaya.
“As concerned citizens of the state we cannot sit idle and turn a blind eye to what we witness and hear about the present situation in the state,” Miller said while briefing media in Shillong.
He added: “It is very sad to see that the Meghalaya is moving backwards in almost every aspect.”
Miller further said that the prime objective of his party, the VPP, would be to unite the people and together work towards reviving the state.

He said that failures of the current MDA (Meghalaya Democratic Alliance) government are the “main reasons” for formation of the new party.
“There have been a lot of talk about change. But where is it? We need to see real change,” Miller further said.
He added: “VPP has been formed to counter the misrule of the MDA government. The Congress is now too old to depend for a change.”
