The Manipur Congress has decided to cancel all its meetings and close office on Monday (October 4) as a mark of extending solidarity to the justice for Athuan Abonmai.

This was informed by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) spokesperson Ningombam Bupenda Meitei during a press briefing at Congress Bhavan in Imphal on Sunday evening.

The press briefing was also attended by Adv. L. Chandrakumar, chairman, Vicchar Vibhag and MPCC media panelist P. Bankimchandra Meitei.

In the media briefing, Bupenda Meitei stated that the Congress party has extended its solidarity to the 24-hour bandh called from midnight of Sunday till Monday midnight for justice to Athuan Abonmai.

He also stated that as per the advice of All India Congress Committee (AICC) senior observer of Manipur, Jairam Ramesh, MP, and AICC in-charge of Manipur, Bhakta Charan Das, ex-MP,  and MPCC state leadership, the party decided to close the office and cancel all the official meetings which were scheduled to be held in the said duration for the upcoming elections in the state.

A 24-hour shutdown was called in Manipur by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed to seek justice for social activist Athuan Abonmai.

Athuan Abonmai was an advisor and former president of Zeliangrong Baudi, Assam, Manipur, Nagaland (AMN).

Abonmai was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by suspected NSCN-IM militants in Tamenglong district on September 22.
