The Meghalaya government on Friday issued a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and announced re-opening of the educational institutions, with effect from September 1, 2021.

However, the re-opening of the educational institutes is allowed subject to compliance with SoP issued by the education department.

In continuation to Order No POL 75/2020/Pt.I/111, issued on August 20, 2021, several activities are permitted in Meghalaya with effect from September 1, 2021.

According to the new SoP, the central government offices and state government offices may function at 100% strength and shall close at 5 PM daily.

Banks and Post offices may function at 100% strength and shall close at 5:00 PM daily.

“Inter-District movement is permitted,” said the order, issued by Meghalaya chief secretary MS Rao.

However, the movement of commercial vehicles into the East Khasi Hills district shall be regulated by the deputy commissioner of East Khasi Hills district.

Re-opening of tourism for local, domestic and international tourists is allowed subject to compliance with the SoP being issued by the tourism department.

Reopening of restaurants and bars at maximum 50% strength is allowed subject to compliance with the SoP to be issued by the respective deputy commissioners.

“All permissions are subject to strict observance of the COVID-related protocols,” the order said.

“All concerned are advised to refer to the relevant SoPs for further details and necessary compliance,” it added.
