Two militants, one belonging to the NSCN (Khaplang) and another from NSCN (K2) also known as the NSCN-Khango Konyak faction surrendered before the Longding superintendent of police Vikram Harimohan Meena in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district on Wednesday.
The NSCN (K2) cadre was identified as self-styled captain Hikai Wangsa (37) of Longsom village in Longding district.
He had joined the NSCN (K) in 2009 and later joined the NSCN (K2) in 2019.
The NSCN (K) cadre who surrendered was identified as self-styled private Jamgang Patadam (25), a resident of Khasa village in Longding district.
He had joined the outfit in December 2020.
Police said that the surrendered cadres were engaged in extortion and collection of taxes. They were all holding influential positions and had been working actively for the outfit.
“The cadres of NSCN are involved in many extortion-related activities in Longding area mostly. Our operation against the insurgents has been going on the bordering area of Myanmar and Arunachal Pradesh. Our intelligence groups are working hard to avert any kind of eventualities,” said the police official.
Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh shares its boundary with Myanmar and through jungle route, the insurgent groups sneaked into Indian Territory.
