The North Lakhimpur Municipal Board (NLMB) has imposed a ban on stray cattle on the streets after the mowing down of five cows in the town on Sunday morning.
The imposition comes after a road mishap took place in the Khelmati area on NH-15 in North Lakhimpur in which five bovines were found dead on the street.
It is believed that speedy vehicles knocked down the five cows.
The North Lakhimpur Municipal Board (NLMB) quickly removed the carcases from the street and disposed.
The NLMB through its mobile mike service has made appeal to residents in North Lakhimpur not to allow their cattle to roam on the streets of the town.
It also announced that any stray cattle if found on the streets would be taken to the cattle pound and fines would be levied against their owners.
Meanwhile, the NLMB has kept the stray cattle heads drawn from the streets in Tyagkshetra in North Lakhimpur temporarily.
The ban order comes days after Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tabled the much-talked about Assam Cattle Preservation Bill 2021 in State Assembly recently.
The proposed Assam Cattle Preservation Bill 2021 was tabled on the first day of the Budget Session of the Assam Assembly on July 12, 2021 for discussions.
Earlier, the Assam Cabinet approved the Bill for introduction in the Assembly.
The Cattle Bill “envisages imposition of complete ban on transport of cattle outside the state.”
The Bill was introduced with the aim of bringing an end to illegal cattle smuggling to Bangladesh.
