The Assam Congress has chalked out a series of programmes to be organised across the state in protest against the hike in prices of petrol, diesel and essential commodities with effect from July 7.
Regarding the decision, Assam Congress in a statement said: “As per the decision of AICC in a meeting convened on June 28, Congress president Sonia Gandhi had issued instructions to state committees to carry out a series of protests against spiralling price rise of petrol, diesel and essential commodities between July 7-17, 2021.”
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) informed that a virtual meeting of all district presidents was held on Sunday with AICC general secretary in-charge Jitendra Singh Alwar and APCC president Ripun Bora along with MPs and senior leaders.
During the meeting on Sunday, a series of programme were chalked out from July 7-17, 2021, said the statement issued by Bobbeeta Sharma, chairperson of the media department of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC).
According to the programme schedule, from July 7-17, 2021, all blocks within each district committee will organize protests maintaining Covid protocol.

The party workers will stage sit-in agitation for 2 hours and protest by taking out pots and pans with members of Mahila Congress, Youth Congress and other block level organizations.
According to the party’s decision, cycle rally, to be organized in city and towns under the District Congress Committees (DCCs), will be participated by elected party representatives of municipal corporation and office-bearers of DCC.
“Protest will be carried out with placards of slogan against price rise,” APCC leader Sharma said.
Sharma said on July 17, a protest rally will be launched in the city of Guwahati centrally.
The protest rally in the city will be attended by APCC president Ripun Bora, State Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Debabrata Saikia, MPs, MLAs, senior leaders, office-bearers and members of the Congress party, Sharma informed.
Signature campaign in petrol pumps will be carried out under the District Congress Committees (DCCs) as a mark of protest and awareness programme against the price rise of petrol and diesel, she added.
