The Mizoram government will provide financial assistance worth Rs 23,39,500 to 4,679 inmates of de-addiction centres and child care institutions in the state.
The financial assistance has been provided to ensure that the basic needs of the inmates are met during the Covid-19 induced lockdown in Mizoram.
The de-addiction centres and orphanages in Mizoram had faced a tough time during the nationwide lockdown imposed in India during the first wave of the pandemic in 2020.

Most of these homes had run out essential commodities, making it difficult for them to provide for the inmates.
The financial assistance will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Inmates of de-addiction centres and orphanages in eight districts will receive Rs 500 each.
The funds will be dispersed to the respective districts administration, who will be responsible for distributing them among the beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, Mizoram on Thursday reported the highest single-day spike of Covid-19 cases, as 347 people tested positive for the virus.
The disease has claimed three more lives, taking the total death toll to 61.
The total number of positive cases in the state is 14,534, of which 3,585 are positive cases.
