Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta has claimed that the vaccination process in the State will be over by August 15. 

Keshab Mahanta said this on Wednesday in Kaziranga on the sideline of first Assam Police SPs conference. 

The Assam Health Minister further said that the State will receive sufficient numbers of COVID-19 vaccines by June 21, which would enable the Health Department to ramp up the vaccination process and complete it by August 15. 

It may be mentioned here that as per Government data, as on June 7, only 27 percent of Assam 45+ age group population have received doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

Meanwhile, stating that the COVID-19 situation in Assam has improved in the last few days, Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said that the State Government will come up with a fresh set of SOPs after June 15. 

The Assam Government recently had extended the COVID-19 restrictions in the State till June 16, which also bans inter-district movement of individuals. 

Notably, Assam COVID-19 situation has improved considerably in the last few weeks with the daily positivity rate dropping below 3 percent on Tuesday. 

Assam currently has 49,158 active COVID-19 cases. The recovery rate in the State stands at 87.75 percent.
