Chairman of Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) Jayanta Malla Barua today unveiled a statue of Netai Dhubuni in Assam’s Dhubri district.
The statue accompanied with her son Dhanonjay and Behula- Lakhindar, which stands in front of the historical Pachpeer Dargah on the bank of river Brahmaputra has been built by the State Culture Department at an estimated cost of Rs 11 lakh.

As per mythology,the name Dhubri is derived from the story of Padma-Purana of Behula-Lakhindar, where the main character of the story Behula used to work for the gods such as Shiva, Parbati and others, and washed her clothes on a big stone at the bank of the Brahmaputra river called ‘Netai Dhubunir Ghat’.
During the statue unveiling ceremony on Friday, Jayanta Malla Barua said that Dhubri has a number of historical places like Mahamaya Dham, Pachpeer Dargah, Sikh Temple, Panbari Masjid and the likes and accordingly this district have a lot of potential for development in tourism sector and his Department is accordingly focusing to develop the same in a phased manner.
Speaking on this occasion, the chairman of ATDC said, “The ideals of the great legendary like Netai Dhubuni, Guru Teg Bahadur Singh Sahib and others will always inspire the new generations.”

On the occasion, Annata Lal Gyani, Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri, Anil Kr Das, vice president of Assam Financial Corporation, Pushpa Mallo, chairperson, Dhubri Municipal Board, Rongnit Terang, SP, Dhubri, Dipak Saha, president of Dhubri district unit of BJP along with other invitees were present.
