The police in Assam’s Hojai district have swung into action arresting 24 persons in connection with the brutal assault on an on-duty doctor.
The arrested 24 persons include the main perpetrators and conspirators. The arrested persons also include a woman, who was seen in the video of assault on the doctor that went viral in the social media.
The development in the case has been informed by Special DGP of Assam Police – GP Singh.
“Further action till 0400 Hours on June 2nd – 24 persons including main perpetrators & conspirators have been arrested. This includes the woman seen in the video,” informed Special DGP of Assam Police – GP Singh.

GP Singh also said that the police would submit the chargesheet of the case at the earliest and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We would submit a strong charge sheet in shortest possible time and ensure the criminals are brought to justice,” said GP Singh.
The arrested persons have been identified as: 1) Md Kamaruddin 2) Md Jainal uddin 3) Rehanuddin 4) Saidul Alam 5) Rahim Uddin 6) Rajul Islam 7) Tayebur Rahman 8) Sahil Islam 9) Rahimuddin 10) Abdul Kalam 11) Nurzul Islam 12) Abdul Gumi 13) Dilwar Hussain 14) Abdul Hussain 15) Anuwar Hussain 16) Ikramul Hussain 17) Nasirrudin 18) Alimuddin 19) Jamil Ahmad 20) Sarifuddin 21) Safiquddin 22) Mofizur Rahman 23) Matibur Rahman 24) Misba Begum.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said: “24 culprits involved in this barbaric attack have been arrested and the chargesheet will be filed at the earliest. I am personally monitoring this investigation and I promise that justice will be served.”

On Tuesday, an on-duty doctor attached to Fultali Model Hospital under Lanka Police Station in central Assam’s Hojai district was allegedly brutally assaulted by a group of men following the death of a COVID-19 patient at the hospital.
Sources said the relatives of the deceased patient mercilessly beat up the doctor, Seuj Kumar Senapati, and also beat up some of the nurses of the hospital on duty at the time.
In a video of the incident that went viral in the social media, a group of people can be seen charging at the doctor with slippers and sticks in front of the hospital building.
According to sources, Giyasuddin, a COVID-19 patient from Udali area, died at the hospital around 10 am on Tuesday.
Some people, including relatives of the patient, immediately became enraged at the sudden death of the patient and attacked the doctor as well as other staffers of the hospital.

Meanwhile, the assault on an on-duty doctor has evoked strong condemnation from across the State.
IMA Assam State Branch said: “IMA Assam State Branch condemns in all strongest terms the barbaric assault on a freshly passed out doctor Dr Seuj Kumar Senapati at one of the Covid Care Centres in Hojai District. IMA and all the doctors are at a loss at this gruesome reward to a frontline worker in Covid duty.”
Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta visited the victim doctor and took stock of his health condition.
He said: “Such barbaric attack on our frontline warrior will not be tolerated & shall not go unanswered. The perpetrators will be brought to justice. Dr Seuj Kr Senapati will be under our care and protection till his complete recovery. Justice shall prevail!”
