A youth from Gogamukh in Assam’s Dhemaji district has been arrested by police for making a comment  against Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Facebook.

The arrested youth has been identified as Nipom Chutia.

The youth earlier served as a journalist.

The youth made allegation of extortion demand by chief minister Sarma in the name of ULFA(I).

The youth uploaded the post on his Facebook page on May 20, 2021.

He also raised allegation of “killing” Manabendra Sarma against chief minister Sarma.

The youth has been arrested by Gorchuk police in Guwahati.

He is currently under the custody of Gorchuk police.

The police have registered a case (No 353/21) at Gorchuk police station under sections 294A/506) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Information Technology 67.

Under Section 506 of IPC (punishment for criminal intimidation), an accused shall be punished with imprison­ment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.

The police have started grilling the youth.
