The COVID-19 situation in Meghalaya has further worsened. 

As many as 24 fresh deaths have been reported in Meghalaya on Wednesday.

This has pushed the COVID-19 death tally in Meghalaya up to 379. 

Out of 24 new deaths, 17 are from East Khasi Hills district, 4 from West Jaiñtia Hills district, and 1 each from East Jaiñtia Hills, East Garo Hills and Ri-Bhoi district.

Moreover, 872 new positive cases have been registered in Meghalaya on Wednesday. 

Meghalaya now has 5,769 active cases. 

The state also registered 411 COVID-19 recoveries. 

This has taken the number of recovered cases in Meghalaya up to 19,596.

The spike in cases in the last two weeks especially in East Khasi Hills district has raised concerns. 

The rapid surge in cases has compelled the Meghalaya government to enforce total lockdown in East Khasi Hills district till May 31.
