Wildfire in Mizoram’s Lunglei district continues to rage on and is now fast spreading into human inhabited areas.  

With the authorities in Mizoram fighting relentlessly to contain the spread of the wildfire, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took stock of the situation. 

PM Modi had a conversation with Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga and assured all possible support from the Centre in overcoming the crisis. 

“Spoke to Mizoram CM, Mr Zoramthanga and took stock of the situation arising due to forest fires in parts of the state. Assured all possible support from the Centre in overcoming this crisis. We all pray for the safety and wellbeing of the people of Mizoram,” PM Modi tweeted. 

On the other hand, Mizoram CM Zoramthanga thanked PM Modi for the assistance provided by the Central Government. 

“Thank you so much Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji. I thank the Central Government for its prompt assurance and swift action. The people of #Mizoram says ‘Kan lawm e’,” CM Zoramthanga tweeted.

The wildfire in Mizoram’s Lunglei district broke out on April 24 and has been raging on since then. 

Properties worth lakhs of rupees have been destroyed in the wildfire including homes of scores of people. 

Many species of animals have also been affected due to the wildfire. 

Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force has deployed its Mi-17V5 choppers in firefighting operations after the Mizoram Government asked the IAF for its assistance on Sunday. 

It has been over 35 hours now that the wildfire broke out. 

There are at least 30 areas where the wildfire continues to rage on. 

Meanwhile, as per latest inputs, the wildfire has been brought under control in the areas of Bazar Veng, Serkawn, Zotlang and Chanmari Ramthar.
