Manmohan Singh in his letter to PM Modi has urged the Centre to ramp up its vaccination programme.

โ€œThere are many things we must do to fight the pandemic but a big part of this effort must be ramping up of vaccination programme,โ€ Manmohan Singh said in his letter to PM Modi.

In his first suggestion, Manmohan Singh said that enough orders for COVID-19 vaccine must be placed well in advance to procure it on time.

โ€œIf we want to vaccinate a target number in this period, we should place enough orders in advance so that the producers can adhere to an agreed schedule of supply,โ€ Manmohan Singh said in his first suggestion.

Manmohan Singh also suggested that the Centre may retain 10 per cent for distribution based on emergency needs โ€œbut other than that, states should have a clear signal of likely availability so that they can plan their roll out.โ€

Manmohan Singh also appealed the Centre to assist vaccine producers โ€œwith funds and other concessionsโ€ so that they expand their manufacturing facilities quickly.

India on Sunday recorded the highest ever spike in COVID-19 cases. India logged over 2.61 lakh cases on Sunday. Over 1500 COVID-19 deaths have also been reported in 24 hours.
