Eminent literary critic and former assistant secretary of Asom Sahitya Sabha, Kutubuddin Ahmed on Sunday passed away at a private hospital in Guwahati due to a prolonged illness.
The 73-year-old Ahmed was a former member of Sahitya Akademi.

Ahmed, who was a resident of Pulibar in Jorhat, was also a retired professor of the English department of the Dergaon Kamal Dowerah College and had authored about 20 books.
Ahmed was also registrar of the Central Institute of Assamese Studies, which was later renamed as Prachyavidarnarav Dr Maheswar Neog Institute of Assamese Studies — the academic wing of the Asom Sahitya Sabha.

The writer, who was also a rector of a junior college and a state government Sahitya pensioner is survived by his wife, a son and a host of relatives.
He was associated with a number of socio-cultural organizations.
Several organizations including the Asam Sahitya Sabha have mourned his demise.
His funeral rites are scheduled to be performed at the Jorhat Kabarstan on Sunday night.
