A hardcore rebel of the proscribed NSCN (K) has surrendered before security forces in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district.

The surrendered rebel has been identified as Tuman Havi, 28, a resident of New Khamlang village under the Miao circle in Changlang district.

Havi, a self-styled sergeant of the outfit, surrendered before the Changlang police, Indian Army and CRPF at the Miao police station on Tuesday, Changlang SP Mihin Gamb said.

The rebel leader had joined the NSCN-K in 2011 on being influenced by the cadres of the outfit, Gamb said.

Havi spent around 10 years in the underground outfit and finally decided to lay down his arms to lead a normal life.

Havi’s surrender is an outcome of relentless pursuit and effective counter-insurgency operation carried out by a joint team of police and security forces in the district which yielded the surrender of cadre, said a security official.

Earlier in February, Matkham, another NSCN-K cadre from the same village, surrendered before the police and security forces.

Havi will be handed over to his family for reintegration with mainstream society after completing all the formalities, the official added.
