Residents of Bhutepuwa area of Bhaghmara in Assam’s Baska came together to celebrate the five-day Doul Mahotsav.
Notwithstanding the spread of Covid-19 in the state, these residents have come forward to celebrate the Mahotsav that is celebrated on the occasion of Holi every year.

Meanwhile, with the second wave of Covid-19 creating havoc in many states of India, the Union health ministry had asked to avoid large gatherings and refrain from celebrating the festival of colours.
The festival began on March 27 and will conclude on March 31
The historic 121-year-old Doul Mahotsav has been organized by the ‘ Bhutepuwa Bori Deul Uddjapan Samitti’ at Sri Sri Narasingha Kirtanghar in the district.

The festival will comprise various religious activities including naam-prasanga being held to worship Lord Krishma.
Locals will also stage different cultural programmes like folksongs and plays narrating the story of Lord Krishna when he played with colours in the company of Radha and other ‘gopis’.
“During this festival, we forget our sorrows and agonies and partake in the gaiety. The festival also forges a spirit of love and brotherhood among all sections of people,” said Ram Das, a local resident.
Throwing caution to the winds many people across the state have been witnessed to play Holi.
