After the arrest of a senior officer of NFR for accepting bribe on Tuesday, a CBI team on Friday started inspection at Railway Consumer Depot (RCD) near Guwahati Railway Station.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on March 16 arrested a senior officer of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) for allegedly accepting a bribe from a man to pass a bill of a contractor.
Sources said NF Railway official Swapnadeep Gogoi, a senior section engineer (C&W), was caught red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the man.
The investigating agency in its FIR alleged that Gogoi demanded a bribe from the complainant for clearing the pending bills in respect to contract agreement relating to work of Mechanised Railway Coach Cleaning at Coach Cleaning Depot of the NF Railway in Dibrugarh.
The agency sleuths also carried out searches at the residential and official premises of Gogoi leading to the recovery of some incriminating documents.
The CBI team seized a huge amount of cash besides several blank cheques from the NFR official.
In January this year, the CBI booked a senior officer of the Railways engineering services for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 crore to favour a company in connection with a contract of the NF Railway.
The CBI had conducted searches at 21 locations across five states — Assam, Tripura, West Bengal, Uttarakhand and Delhi — in connection with the case.
During the searches, CBI had recovered Rs 54 lakh in cash.
The agency had also arrested deputy chief engineer Hem Chandra Borah and assistant executive engineer Laxmi Kant Verma, posted in Agartala, after it arrested senior officer MS Chauhan.
