Young Congress leader Rajkumar Nilanetra Neog, who has been given party ticket for Dibrugarh seat, promises to solve the waterlogging problem of the town if he is voted to power in the ensuing Assam Assembly elections.

“Every year, Dibrugarh reels under water during monsoon and the streets get waterlogged. Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan has failed miserably to solve the problem. I will prioritise the decade-old problem and work to save the town from waterlogging if voted to power,” Neog told Northeast Now on Sunday.

Neog is currently the district general secretary (administrative) of Dibrugarh Congress.

Neog thanked the Congress high command for selecting him as the Congress candidate for the Dibrugarh Assembly seat.

“I am thankful to everyone and our party workers for showering love to me. For the first time I will contest from Dibrugarh against BJP leader Prasanta Phukan,” he said.

Neog informed that he joined Congress in 1992 as an NSUI member when he was studying at Cotton College.

“I became the NSUI Dibrugarh district president in 2004 and remained in the post till 2005. I served as Youth Congress president of Dibrugarh from 2005-2008,” Neog said.

While stating that solution to the drainage problem of Dibrugarh will be his main focus if he is elected as MLA, Neog said, “In Dibrugarh municipal areas, many of the people have no Myadi Patta land even after living for decades. I will work so that they get Myadi Patta.”

He criticised the BJP for failing to control the price rise of essential commodities.

“Our party has come up with 5 guarantees for the voters. If our party comes to power then we will increase the wages of tea workers up to Rs 355,” Neog said.

Neog expressed confidence in winning the Dibrugarh seat by defeating veteran BJP legislator Prasanta Phukan in the Assam Assembly elections 2021.
