As West Bengal gears up for Assembly elections 2021, actor Mithun Chakraborty on Sunday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a programme in Kolkata Brigade Parade Ground where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a huge rally.

After joining the BJP, one of the most beloved actors in West Bengal, Mithun Chakraborty, who is called ‘Mithun da’, delivered all the punchlines to thrill the crowd who were present to see Prime Minister Modi, say media reports.

While addressing the gathering, the actor said, “Here is my new dialogue. Ami joldhorao noi, bele borao noi… ami ekta cobra, ek chobol-ei chhobi (Don’t mistake me for a harmless snake, I am a pure cobra, one strike and you become a photograph.”

The actor said he is “proud to be a Bengali,” and went on to recite some of his most famous one-liners.

He said, “Marbo ekhaney…lash porbay shoshaney (‘I will thrash you here. Your body will be found at the crematorium,” reciting the one-liner from his 2006 hit film, “MLA Fatakeshto”.

The 70-year-old actor is a former Rajya Sabha member of the Trinamool Congress.

On February 16, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat visited Mithun Chakraborty at his bungalow in Mumbai.

After that meeting, there had been speculations that the actor might join the BJP and become its face in the West Bengal Assembly election
