Ahead of the release of the candidates’ list for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev reportedly tendered her resignation from the party.

As per reports, Dev decided to quit the party expressing her displeasure over the selection of candidates and sharing of seats with alliance partner AIUDF.

Dev reportedly flew to New Delhi on Friday to express her grievances before Congress president Sonia Gandhi over the selection of candidates for the Assembly election.

The former Silchar MP reportedly opposed the candidature of former party MLA Rumi Nath from the Barkhala constituency.

Dev reportedly wanted Papon Deb to be fielded in the constituency in place of Nath.

Rumi Nath was expelled from the Congress party last year for her alleged anti-party activities.

According to reports, Congress has now decided to field Nath in Barkhala constituency.

Dev also resented the party’s decision not to give the ticket to another candidate of her choice, Hirak Das in Dhalai seat.

Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi, however, rubbished the media report that the former MP has resigned from the party.

“There is not an iota of truth in the media report on her resignation. She might have grievances, our party will address them,” Bordoloi said.
