A man from Sivasagar was killed while another suffered serious injuries in a road mishap on the bypass near Jagnath Temple in Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
The deceased has been identified as 57-year-old Irshad Hussain, a resident of Sivasagar.
The injured has been identified as the deceased’s sister, Injura Hussain.
The injured Injura Hussain was rushed to Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in a critical condition.
The incident took place on Tuesday night.
Sources said a Maruti car with registration No AS04E-34 26 and a Ford Fiesta car with registration No AS-23L-2232 collided head-on on the bypass road on Tuesday night.
“The deceased, Irshad Hussain, was a lawyer in Sivasagar. He was sitting on the front seat of his vehicle besides his driver,” the Dibrugarh traffic police inspector said.
“Hussain died on the spot while his sister, Injura Hussain, who received serious injuries, was rushed to AMCH for treatment. Her condition is serious,” police said.
Sources claimed the incident took place due to rash driving.
“We have seized both the vehicles and started our investigation. We suspect that the accident was caused due to the maximum speed of the Ford Fiesta car,” the traffic police inspector added.
