Singer Bipin Chawdang.

The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) Dibrugarh district unit has decided to boycott singer Bipin Chawdang for making derogatory remarks against the former general secretary of the student body, Lurin Jyoti Gogoi.

“We have decided to boycott singer Bipin Chawdang from all AASU programmes in Dibrugarh district. Recently, he made very objectionable remarks against former AASU general Secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi in a BJP meeting in Tingkong. As an AASU member, we would not tolerate such acts from a singer. We have condemned his remark and decided to boycott him from all AASU events in Dibrugarh districts,” Dibrugarh district AASU president Bulbul Dutta told reporters on Friday.

Recently, in a programme at Tingkhong, Chawdang slammed Gogoi, who is now the president of newly floated Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP).

Chawdang shared dais with BJP MLA Bimal Bora at an election meeting at Tingkhong.

The singer showered praised for MLA Bora for the work he has done for the ‘development’ of the Tingkhong constituency.

“During the CAA protest Bipin Chawdang appealed the people to tear the copies of the Act but now he said that earlier he didn’t understand about CAA but now he has understood the Act clearly. He has made a U-turn because he is campaigning for BJP MLA Bimal Bora,” Dutta said.
