A Jorhat-based businessman has been arrested on charges of raping a woman from Central Assam’s Morigaon district.
Police arrested trader Ghaneshyam Tosniwal late on Thursday night from Sorbhog in Barpeta district.
The woman who reportedly stayed as a tenant in Tosniwal’s business cum residential complex had lodged an FIR at the Jorhat police station alleging that she was raped by him and made a video of the incident.
Based on her complaint, the police registered a case (number 448/2021) at Jorhat police station.
Tosniwal had reportedly fled after she had leveled allegations against him.
A police source said that Tosniwal was brought to Jorhat on Friday evening.
He has been booked under Sections 354 (A) 354 (C), 509 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the source said.
Investigation in the case was on and Tosniwal was likely to be produced before a court in Jorhat on Saturday.
