Police on Saturday arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting and murdering a seven-year-old girl in central Assam’s Hojai district.
The girl had been missing since Friday night and her blood-soaked body was recovered on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Joyprakash Kalar alias Munna allegedly raped and murdered the minor girl, who came to her maternal uncle’s house at Barhola to attend a marriage ceremony.
The girl went missing on Friday night from her maternal uncle’s house when the marriage party was going on.
As soon as, Hojai Police got the information reached the spot and began the investigation.
The accused was subsequently arrested and charged with kidnapping, sexual assault and murder under the Indian Penal Code along with sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO).
The incident has sparked tension in the area and locals have demanded a death sentence to the culprit.
