A massive uproar has erupted in the Dibrugarh University in Assam over the cancellation of the Students’ Union election.

But the authorities in the Dibrugarh University have ‘cancelled’ the holding of the elections citing “disagreement among students relating to filing of nomination papers for the conduct of the elections.”
In a notification issue on Monday, the Registrar of Dibrugarh University further stated that the elections for the DUPGSU appears to be “not feasible” as scheduled as the Returning and Assistant Returning Officers for the elections tendered their resignations.
“The Competent Authority of the Dibrugarh University has decided to cancel the ongoing election process for DUPGSU, 2021,” the notification from the Registrar’s office read.

However, a section of the candidates and their supporters are crying foul play over the cancellation of the elections.
Many of the candidates are alleging that the elections to the DUPGSU were cancelled by the Dibrugarh University authorities following a “secret understanding” between the authorities and another section of candidates.
“We had filed our nomination papers on time. But another section of candidates failed to file their nomination on time. Later that section of candidates and the University authorities reached an understanding and later the elections were cancelled,” alleged one candidate.
Meanwhile, protests have erupted in the Dibrugarh University campus in demand for holding of the elections as per schedule.

The protesting students also sat for discussion with the university authorities on Tuesday, but the meeting failed to yield any result.
