The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Meghalaya was quick to react on the threat of withdrawal from the coalition government in the State by the People’s Democratic Front (PDF).
The PDF on Thursday had warned of withdrawing support to the coalition government led by National People’s Party (NPP) chief Conrad Sangma, if the BJP meddled with the internal policy matters of the PDF.
The state BJP has down the PDF threat stating the party will never go against the ‘wishes of the people of Meghalaya’.

However, the newly appointed Health Minister and BJP legislator A L Hek on Friday said every political party can intervene in matters directly ‘linked to the interests of the people of the State’.
Echoing Hek, state BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh, said his party aims at ‘transparency and development’.
Chairman of the PDF, Pynshngain N Syiem, while addressing a programme to felicitate the electoral success of the party’s four legislators in Shillong on Thursday said if the BJP interferes with the PDF’s core agenda related to safeguarding the rights of the indigenous people for which the party has been fighting all along, ‘we are ready to withdraw support to the MDA government’.
Syiem further added the party will set up a monitoring cell to follow up and find out the BJP’s alleged involvement in ‘anti-Christian activities’ in many parts of the State.
