A sessions Court in Mumbai has rejected the bail plea of former CEO of BARC, Partho Dasgupta.

Partho Dasgupta was arrested on December 24.

Dasgupta has been accused of misusing his official position and conspiring with Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami to make Republic TV channel as the number one news channel by manipulating TRP ratings.

Dasgupta allegedly received huge kickbacks from Republic TV.

The prosecution opposed the bail plea and cited the WhatsApp chats between Arnab Goswami and Dasgupta, in which Goswami assured him of influence from sources as high profile as the PMO.

The prosecution said that if granted bail, there was a possibility of Dasgupta misusing his influence and tampering with evidence.

Dasgupta, on the other hand, cited health issues in his bail plea.

Following the rejection of the bail plea by the sessions court, Dasgupta’s lawyers are now mulling to move the Bombay High Court.
