Unseeded Ritik Rout caused upset by defeating second seed Jishnu Protim Das 8-6 in the pre-quarterfinal in the Boys’ Singles (under 14 years) in the 23rd India Club-Anup Lahoty Open Tennis Championship 2021 on Wednesday.
The event, organised by India Club Guwahati, a premier tennis playing club of the region, under the auspices of All Assam Tennis Association (AATA), got underway at the club courts in Guwahati on Wednesday.
The Championship is being organised for Boys’ and Girls’ Singles Under 14 and 18 years, Gentleman Singles and Senior Gentlemen’s Doubles (above 35, 45 and 55 years) categories respectively. Cash scholarship will be awarded from quarterfinal stage in the under 14 and 18 years categories only.
Earlier, the championship was inaugurated by Bijan Choudhori, President, India Club by hoisting the club flag.
